Lets see, obama ended our space program, but we still needed a space program so a private citizen stepped up and handled it. The government gave him some contracts for it, which, by the way, was FAR cheaper than maintaining our own space program.

He helped mainstream electric vehicles when our government was pushing hard for EVs, because of climate change, so they gave him a little money and gave the people tax credits to buy EVs.

It kinda sounds like he provided services that the government wanted and needed, so they gave him some grants, as they do with many many other businesses.

well elon was eyeing AI as the future and AMD has been around since 1969, they are a CPU/GPU maker so yeah
I think he would have that foresight, who knows maybe he does hold a large position
