Are you suggesting us lower tariffs for some countries to allow us merchandise to be purchased abroad ?

For the most part , in a planned economy , tariffs are to protect growth of domestic industry , particularly to ensure us self sufficiency , and also to become globally competitive , so that once a domestic industry becomes globally competitive , reducing tariffs might be a better consideration for increasing gross domestic product .
