In a letter addressed to Trump, Kugler did not state a reason for her decision to leave, only noting that she will be returning to Georgetown University as a professor in the fall.
“It has been an honor of a lifetime to serve on the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System,” Kugler wrote. “I am especially honored to have served during a critical time in achieving our dual mandate of bringing down prices and keeping a strong and resilient labor market.”
Kugler’s term was set to expire at the end of January 2026.
Her resignation now paves the way for Trump to put his own nominee in for the Board of Governors. Two of his prior appointments, Christopher Waller and Michelle Bowman, voted against the decision at Wednesday’s meeting to hold the Fed’s key rate steady, instead indicating they wanted to lower.

This could be the effect of Trumps Tarriff policy. As costs increases on imports begins to affect an economy as prices increase for the importer who then passes it on to the consumer. Who pays the price for the tarriffs.

Jesus Christ man. I do this for a living. The tariffs were publicly available and negotiated by Trump even though they’ve been the same since NAFTA. If you think there were meaningful tariffs on US goods other than a few specific sectors we negotiated with them you’re crazy.
We didn’t lose 439,000 jobs that Trump said were there because of Federal and State worker changes. Trump overestimated jobs by a record amount so far this year.
We have added almost no new jobs which means no new incomes creating no new customers buying no new stuff or services. The GDP will tank with prices going up and jobs plummeting. Awesome sauce.
