It's what can be accomplished if we put our minds to it. The launch is just after 5:00. What a beautiful sight. The landing of the booster rocket is right on spot. Just the view of alone is worth it. Good adventure for all.

Private industry killing it in the arena of space. It won't be much longer before the price of a ticket drops enough that most people will be able to afford it. I can't wait to take my trip.

Paid for by American taxpayers.
I've smashed this argument so many times I've made a sort of form letter just to keep myself from getting carpal tunnel syndrome.

The Space Shuttle cost $20,000 per pound to launch into orbit. After the Obama administration canceled the program NASA gave the Russians over 3 billion in tax payer money to catch rides on their rockets. SpaceX launches for $1500 per pound with it's Falcon 9 Heavy and that price will drop more once the Starship Super Heavy starts carrying cargo and astronauts. SpaceX does space travel better and cheaper than NASA ever could.

Yes, still paid for by the American taxpayer.

And it's cheaper than NASA or Boeing could do and Russia isn't getting money from the US taxpayer.

I don't let my love of science be colored by partisan hackery. I'm a Conservative and do not like a bunch of the shit the government wastes money on, but space is important to the future of humanity.

You're assuming I am thinking this is bad. I fully support the effectiveness of the privatized diversification. There are a whole plethora of private companies providing services to NASA, many of which are in Texas. SpaceX is one. There is even a small satellite company literally ten minutes from my house, that built the cool little lander that sent back those epic pics from the moon.

Private companies building products for NASA and space is old news. Dad worked for Hughes making stuff for the Shuttle. The recent efforts expanded that, and allows NASA to serve an executive function, which is what they are good at.

Weightless "Whirlstar" should be interesting.

Waffle House can sponsor it. ;)

They already have a employee that can handle thrown chairs.
