Does gender-based oppression take place in Modern Western Society?

According to the Dictionary, oppression is prolonged cruel or unjust treatment or control. Another definition given by Merriam Webster's dictionary is unjust or cruel exercise of authority or power. In places where women had less rights then men, they definitely were oppressed.
