They belong directly to the Crown, whatever that is.

Like the Isle of Man

i always find this curious

I’ve been there. The German hospital (inside a mountain) from WW2 is still there, with all the medical equipment from those times

As is the Bill of Sale for New Jersey.

Yes they are known as Crown dependencies since 1066 and are responsible for the defence of the Islands, it's always seemed a strange set up they are self Governing with a Governor.

You have Great Britain, which in England, Scotland, and Wales

You have the British Isles, which is the islands of Great Britain and Ireland, and it includes the Republic of Ireland

You have the UK, which is England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland

The channel isles are not part of the UK, they're Crown Dependencies

Thr Isle of Man is a Crown Dependency too -

A British Crown Dependency is self governing, not part of the United Kingdom, meaning it has its own legislative, fiscal, and legal systems. While the UK is responsible for its defence and international relations, the Crown, acting through the Privy Council, ensures the island's good governance. This relationship is distinct from British Overseas Territories and is based on the unique constitutional link to the Crown.

The privy council is the body that advises the monarch.

Also, England, Scotland, and Wales are often referred to as countries, but it's the UK that's sovereign.

The above is why a good chunk of our American friends haven't a clue about the British.

In polite terms that's how I see you .
More polite than calling you an insane old fool .

The Crown Dependencies are the Isle of Man, the Bailiwick of Jersey and the Bailiwick of Guernsey (which includes Alderney and Sark). They are self-governing entities, over which the Crown has certain responsibilities.
