Apparently, several States had plans to regulate AI within the bounds of their State borders. States' Rights is pretty foundational to the checks and balances handed down by the Founding Fathers. But it appears that Trump is planning on trouncing on lawful powers granted to the various States of the Union.

Perhaps I'm missing a key component of this power grab and expansion of Federal Powers (a dangerous thing, in my opinion).

Now I realize that the Left will use this to attack Trump as if only a Republican would do such a thing. We all know that they would applaud the move if a Democrat did. And I also realize the the Neocon "Right" will applaud this move because Trump is the one doing it.

I'm more interested in hearing from some of the more sensible posters and get a feel for what the America First Right has to say about it.

The supremacy clause says that states rights are secondary to federal rights.

Well, when it comes to national intelligence and defense, which is the principle and most important aspect of AI, that is a federal matter, so doesn't stand to reason that the Fed manage it with everyone on the same page instead of pell mell with everyone competing against each other?

I've seen state government agencies, and no state currently has a clue how to regulate AI, since its still being invented.

There are about 1,500 AI data centers currently underway, with about 5,000 estimated to happen in the long term.

I can see states approving/regulating siting requirements, water usage, power usage, and taxes paid, but not the internal workings of them. Each one will probably dedicated to solving a few seriously complex problems. Possibly, the states could require safeguards such that the AI could not become malicious or a danger to the community.

Trump , in a very similar fashion as Lincoln, .... Has no desire for State's Rights.

By the Way,..... Slavery was not the initial reason for the Civil War,.... It was State's Rights.

A state can't violate the US Constitution....they can certainly regulate something within their borders, but that regulation can't violate the Commerce Clause of the US Constitution that gives Congress the power to regulate interstate commerce.

The key phrase: "... gives Congress the power."

correct...in other words, the Federal Govt regulates interstate commerce.

the President has the power to enforce it, the EO, like any EO simply gives direction to that enforcement.

Not all things AI-related has to do with commerce. Some has to do with social engineering and other non-commerce related topics.

Of course it does. Every AI company engages in interstate commerce

Not a Trump fan. However I don't think AI can be regulated on a per state level. Internet lines travel through the States you can not stop AI reach into the state. It is not feasible. I can sit in Oklahoma and access AI on a different continent at nearly the speed of light. I guess the states can try. I say good luck

The head of the MAGA Party has expansionist views of the Federal government vs. state's rights.
So you think the courts will side with Trump? Or, you have no clue what you are talking about, its just your TDS?

Conducted by corporations both foreign and domestic. Even if money doesn't change hands everything regarding the internet is international which makes it a federal issue.

Another excellent example of why to secede away from the federal government. Im not in the camp to want to give power to this AI beast.
