The House of Representatives passed a measure that would require proof of citizenship to register to vote, an effort to put into law one of Donald Trump’s executive orders targeting elections.
The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, or SAVE Act, passed by a vote of 220-208, with four Democratic members joining all Republicans present on Thursday.
The bill sponsored by Republican Rep. Chip Roy proposes amending the National Voter Registration Act to require states to obtain proof of citizenship in person from people who are registering to vote or updating their voter registration.
Voting rights advocates have warned that the measure, if passed into law, could disenfranchise millions of eligible voters who do not have easy access to identification documents, and would upend how states register people to vote online or through automatic or same-day registration.
House Rep. Joe Morelle, the top Democrat on the Committee on House Administration, which oversees federal election administration, called the SAVE Act “one of the most damaging voter suppression bills in modern history.”

Comment:
Voter Fraud is a Voting Rights violation.
How are people registering to vote without proving who they are, or that they are a citizen?
If people are being allowed to register to vote without showing an ID, then it means that they can register to vote under multiple alias names.
So, if they did have an ID when they registered to vote, then why don't they have that same ID when they go to the polls to cast their ballot?
The Democrat opposition to Voter ID is proof that they are committing voter fraud and violating everyone's Right to Vote.

WASHINGTON — The House passed a bill Thursday that would require proof of citizenship to register to vote in federal elections in an effort to codify one of President Donald Trump's executive actions from his second term.

Lawmakers approved the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act in a 220-208 vote, with four Democrats joining every Republican present in support of the measure.

It is already illegal for noncitizens to vote in federal elections and the practice occurs rarely. Federal law requires that voters registering to vote swear under penalty of perjury that they are citizens and eligible to vote. And registering to vote and casting a ballot leaves a paper trail that elected officials are required by law to routinely review. Courts have blocked states from adding documentary proof-of-citizenship requirements for voters in federal races.

Actually, after the Biden administration issued social security numbers to
illegals, it kind of left no choice in resolving that problem. In several states a person just needs
to show a social security card to vote.
Of course everyone knows that illegals/non citizens can't vote.

Voter ID is a voting rights issue.
The Republicans should frame the Voter ID issue as a voting rights issue.
Because when someone votes twice or an illegal immigrant votes, they cancel-out the vote of legitimate voters.

Most 1st-world countries require voter-id, no? Why shouldn't we? I think voting is both a right and a privilege that should not be extended to non-citizens. If you wanna vote, earn it first.

It's not like efforts are not being made to assist those who can't get to the polls to vote. Nobody is being disenfranchised, and it's hard to understand why anybody would oppose ensuring honest elections where those who can't legally vote are prevented from doing so.

Not exactly true when your bizarre comments are taken into consideration:

Fact: Thirty-six states have laws requesting or requiring voters to show some form of identification at the polls. The remaining 14 states and Washington, D.C., use other methods to verify the identity of voters. Most frequently, other identifying information provided at the polling place, such as a signature, is checked against information on file

Proponents argue increasing identification requirements can prevent in-person voter impersonation and increase public confidence in the election process. Opponents say there is little fraud of this kind, that the burden on voters unduly restricts the right to vote and that the laws impose unnecessary costs and administrative burdens on elections officials. All voters, regardless of the type of verification required by the states, are subject to perjury charges if they vote under false pretenses. See "State-by-State In-Effect Voter ID Requirements" (Table 2 below) for citations and details on which IDs are accepted and what happens when a voter does not have ID.

If I remember correctly, NY state got shot down in the courts allowing
illegals to vote in the state and local elections.
No one asked NY state to do such a thing. You're nuts.

"First of all they're not allowingillegals” to vote. They're allowing legal immigrants (those who have resided in the area for however many ..."

Yet that was the purpose of letting the bastards in.

Now the dems will have to win votes not cheat across the finish lines... this is actually a good thing for the democrat party... if they stay their current course they will fail to exist as we know them now in less than 5 years....

Voting ID doesn't disenfranchise. We've had voter ID for over a year in the UK. If you don't have the ability to take ID, you shouldn't be allowed to waste any further oxygen.

if-women-changed-their-name-after-marriage-they-would-have-v0-3e4g6ioef8ue1.png
married women cant vote when their ID mismatches their birth name due to name change upon marriage.
Who are all these women that wouldn't be able to vote because they changed their last names on their license/ID because it doesn't match their birth name? When you change your name on your license/ID, thanks to the Motor Voter Law that have existed since the 1990s, the DMV would also change their last name on their voter registration while they're sitting there. This is fearmongering playing on fears of people who are ignorant how things actually work.

how things actually work is that when birth last name mismatches current married last name, it requires marriage document and birth certificate or passport. If a woman has been married a long time, it can be difficult to obtain these documents. And approx half the population has a passport.

That would be determined by the states if this SAVE Act passes. Also, we don't know if those who have already been married and done the name change will be affected. All we're getting is that it "could" be a problem. Like the Georgia voting reform that we were told would by "Jim Crow 2.0". However, in the first election with the new law in place, Georgia set a record for most voter turnout.
