I am curious what Democrats goals are for society. I am interested in classic liberal goals as well as progressive goals. As a republican, the template is very simple and concrete. Two working parents if possible, with little government involvement, and people are allowed to keep a large portion of their earnings. The government's primary goal would be defense and would be responsible for breaking up monopolies. This is a very simple model. I have no idea what a liberal model looks like. I know they want government healthcare, but other than that it isn't clear. I'm sure the progressives view all human needs as rights. Cradle to grave government care. Food, shelter, everything. Nobody has to work, they just do because they want to. It seems pretty silly and very optimistic about human nature. It seems like many would choose to do nothing and have others support them. They would expect others to meet their needs and not complain, and of course the gigantic government would skim a significant amount off the top. Could someone please explain what classic and progressive liberal societies would look like?
