Major billionaire makes bombshell accusation against Trump: ‘Most people are silent’

Billionaire hedge fund boss Ray Dalio has a dire warning about President Donald Trump.

Dalio, the founder of Bridgewater Associates, told the Financial Times in an interview released early Tuesday that the United States is moving toward autocratic-style politics, pointing to how a decline in trust, “gaps in wealth” and “gaps in values” are pushing “more extreme” policies.

“What is happening now politically and socially is analogous to what happened around the world in the 1930-40 period,” Dalio said.

Dalio pointed to the Trump administration’s acquisition of a 10% stake in U.S. chipmaker Intel, which was announced in a historic deal last month, likening the move to “strong autocratic leadership that sprang out of the desire to take control of the financial and economic situation.”

“I am just describing the cause and effect relationships that are driving what is happening,” Dalio told the outlet. “And by the way, during such times most people are silent because they are afraid of retaliation if they criticize.”

I read Dalio's book, "The Changing World Order" in which he predicts the demise of the US. Largely because of the cyclicality of global influence. He's an astute observer of long term trends, both political and economic.

But what he said is not a bombshell. That's just a splashy headline designed to attract attention. What he said is essentially the same thing many of us have been saying for a while.

The problem with this observation is it will fall on deaf ears from the MAGA Right who are the folks who should be listening most intently. Or perhaps more accurately put, closed ears. They've heard this kind of thing before and possess all the means necessary to dismiss it as they do all criticisms of trump. The evidence is all around them but they only see trump's success expelling some brown skinned people the minions have been taught to demonize. Deportation not being a policy unique to this government. What is unique are the methods used and the kinds of people being targeted.

I've tried to be measured in my references to Don, not going down the road of calling him a fascist. Rightly so I think. But there are fascist elements of the playbook he's using and he is unequivocally a authoritarian by nature who is in the process of concentrating power in his hands. Even as the entire Repub congressional caucus does nothing to stop him. Highlighting this salient point. “And by the way, during such times most people are silent because they are afraid of retaliation if they criticize.”

Eliminate corporate welfare or your replacement will be a self proclaimed communist. If not in 2028 most certainly in 2032 or '36.

Is that a random thought or a reply to my thread?

Wait, so Rich people you believe and carry your narrative forward good, any who don't bad?

Not the first time I've seen the author of a damning message be disparaged due to an inability to address what the messenger said. Want to know who he is, look him up.

Surely you have something to say that can be better articulated in your own words. Then again, maybe not. Maybe it's best you stick with snark.
When its the truth, snark works.

Wait, so Rich people you believe and carry your narrative forward good, any who don't bad?
Is this really all you have for me? Dotard would be disappointed with your ineffectual defense of him.

That is some weak sauce right there! It must have hit home!
“The great excesses that are now projected as a result of the new budget will likely cause a debt-induced heart attack in the relatively near future,” he said. “I’d say three years, give or take a year or two.”

Dalio is a rare example of a prominent financial figure who has long been critical of Trump in the past — even comparing Trump to previous far-right regimes in his most recent book. In April, he had warned that the president’s sweeping tariffs could drift the country toward a recession, or “something worse.”

Anything?

All Dalio is saying is what folks like myself have been saying, only he is ascribing it to trump and the right whereas the rise of trump and the right was due to folks like yourself who refused to see and listen to the warnings Dialo now assigns to trump and those on the right...white liberals are so despised they mad/make trump look preferable, to recognize it now is akin to "closing the barndoor after the horses got out"...look in the mirror and congratulate yourself or just keep ignoring the real problem.

Whether its Dalio or Larry Summers, or Zandi, if Trump is president, a recession is coming....but it never does.

“And by the way, during such times most people are silent because they are afraid of retaliation if they criticize.”
not sure how that relates to everyday folk [such as yourself] as they never seem to shut up about trump [he consumes their/your entire being] but the celebrity yell fest of folks like rosie O has taken a turn and she/they now speak with a civil tone instead of screaming "Racist" and "Misogyny" night and day from the mountain tops whenever they need a taxpayer funded fix...so it isn't really silence just civility they are engaging in.

If ya had put as much time into fixing white liberals as you do trump...well it would have still fell on deaf ears.

What "messenger"... Gus Freeman read the article and said he has never seen such garbage in his life.... just more fake news crap...

A clear reply to your thread. He made a great amount of money investing in many companies that were given handouts via corporate welfare. The "gaps in wealth" and other metrics he suggests are in large part a by product of these handouts, not Trumps term alone.

The follow up will be angry citizens who lose faith in the system and hence will reach for and support central control by government. In essence, his own path to wealth has contributed to the very allegations he directs to Trump, at least from an economic model. The long term outcome will be a REAL autocratic system
