A guy brought in a NIB (never fired) CVA Scout V2 single-shot in .45-70 into the pawn shop. They gave him $200.00 for it and I bought it for $350.00 when he left.

I mounted an 3 x 9 X 32 Redfield scope I had on-hand and put a sling on it. I won't mess with shooting it till next week as deer season (rifle) is in now.

The Virginia DWR made squeaking noises this year about allowing the old straight wall cartridges like the .45-70 for use during ML season.....The last I heard was they were stuck on single-shot only or also allowing repeaters like lever actions.

If they do, (either way) I'll be ready. ;)

nice looking weapon.

I've got a lever-action Marlin 1895 gov't. 45-70. It's a great rifle. When I was about nine, my dad had an old Springfield Carbine 1873 45-70. It was my first experience shooting that caliber, like it and made it a point in latter years to get a rifle of that caliber.

I have two 1895s a 20" round barrel 2/3 mag and a full-sized 24" octagon.

I've never had a trapdoor carbine, but I do have two full sized Springfield Trapdoors.....One has that odd cleaning rod/bayonet combo.

God, that furniture is hideous. A gun like that deserves wood furniture.
Boyds makes a wood stock for it (about $170) but I did not care for it on the examples I saw where folks bought them.

No cheek rest and the comb looked to be set up more for irons.

They also make a thumbhole stock for but I dislike those.

Really bugs me when I see these sorts of weapons with no iron sights.

Nice Rifle. All the goofy rules they have about hunting sort of kills the feel of hunting. They will have us a using a stick with a sharp rock tied to it before long.

LOL.....Don't give them any ideas or we will be hunting with a David sling before long. ;)

Nah, if anything the methods have lightened-up over the years due to so many deer. The damned things are everywhere. I went out this morning to hang my bird feeder and there were two bucks in the back yard.

Crossbows were only allowed to be used by the handicapped at one time and you could not have a scoped ML.

When I first started hunting in the 60s you were only allowed to kill one deer throughout both bow and rifle season......There was no such thing as ML season.

Now you can kill two a day and as many as you can handle if you buy bonus tags.
