My favorite exchange rate story is from a business trip to Mexico City many years ago. The peso was plummeting in value and the government declared a major devaluation on a FRIDAY. I was part of a large contingent from my company and we went to a fancy French restaurant that night for dinner. They had not had time to adjust their prices. 20 of us ate a five course supper with drinks for about a hundred bucks, including tip.
