How many will you agree with?

1. Term Limits. They get to serve two terms just like the president, then make way for new blood. There is no excuse for people staying in those positions for 60 and 70 years. They spend more energy campaigning than working because the job is so lucrative.

Which leads to:

2. Congresscritters should be paid the median salary of the state they represent, and divest themselves of tradeable assets. If they want to make more money they need to take actions that raise the median wage in their state.

Folks will say "we can't do that, they have to maintain two households and travel a lot"

Which leads me to:

3. No more travel at taxpayer expense. It's 2025 give them all an I-pad and a Zoom subscription. There are ways to vote electronically too. One household, no travel. Also no international travel. There is no need to a senator from Idaho to go to Paris on "business". If they want a European vacation they can pay for it themselves.

And eliminating all that time spent on airplanes and free vacations means more time to work. Which gives them time for:

4. Single Issue Bills Only. If you want more money for your pet project you can't add a provision that gives money to save puppies so everyone goes "awe" and votes for it. If a bill can't pass on it's own merits we don't need it.

And finally:

5. A Congresscritter is always considered to be under oath when speaking to the public or in any official capacity. If they are caught lying they can be charged with perjury, put on trial in their state in front of their constituents, and if convicted summarily removed from office.

Any thoughts?

yea lets do it......

It doesn't matter if they don't represent their constituents' interests. Remember when state after state legislatures were voting to do away with the death penalty while the majority of their voters favored it.

LOL....#5 might be a problem for the lawyers in congress as they are all professional liars.

Since we are doing pie in the sky here maybe change #5 to "no lawyers to be elected to congress".
I'm OK with that. Society would be better off with no lawyers IMHO anyway.

The point is that they should.

I would like to see people pay attention to who they are voting back in

By vote, is how term limits should work IMO

What if we ever get someone in there that everyone likes, that really gives a shit?

The point is that they should.
It's not in their nature to do the "people's business". They do their own and that of their biggest donors. Campaign finance reform is needed.

Our leaders can't seem to go for the head but are always fighting other part of the body of our problems, which is an exercise in futility.

So add it to the list.

6. campaign finance reform. prevent megadonors from buying candidates.

Term limits would help here too.

My thoughts are you had better be careful. You're sounding like a conservative.

Top-down solutions aren’t the answer.

There needs to be a fundamental change of political culture at the very local level – and that’s not going to happen with an electorate that’s willfully ignorant, needlessly frightened, and blindly disengaged.

It is happening the 2030 Census will show a mass migration from Blue states to Red states resulting in a loss of many seats in the house gained by the GOP

Or powerless to fight local politicians. I can't get my alder to answer my emails. I write to my Senator and get back a form letter thanking me for my interest. News anchors only present the same false information that the usual 'experts' provide for them. The whole thing is a dog and pony show.

Today's conservatives do not sound like that.

clean your ears.

Term limits are an indication of distrust for the voters and the democratic process. People tend to vote for a representative they trust and like. Taking that option away would cause chaos. Age limits, however, might be viable.
