Converting downloaded m4a to mp3

Does anyone know if I convert an m4a (downloaded file from iTunes) to an mp3 using iTunes, does the mp3 retain the same copyright and restrictions as the m4a?

If you use iTunes the DRM info is always kept in the file. If you want to strip out the DRM so you can use listen to the song on non-Apple hardware you could try HYMN.

hymn -- decrypt iTunes and iPod music / unprotect AAC files (m4p --> m4a)
