This news is hidden from us by the major media. So to stay informed, one has to get mailed reports with valid updates. Had we had a convention of states on the income tax laws, our mess called the IRS would never have happened to us. Here is part of a report sent to me about the COS and I welcome democrats calling this democracy.

The Convention of States (COS) Action hosted its annual national conference this weekend in Indianapolis, as calls to rein in expansive federal spending, term limits and the power of the federal government have not subsided, despite President Donald Trump's mandate to do so.

The Convention of States, driven by Citizens for Self-Governance, is a grassroots effort to utilize Article V of the U.S. Constitution to convene a limited state convention. It enables delegates to propose amendments targeting federal fiscal restraint, reduced government authority, and term limits for Congress and officials.

Meckler: "The future of the country is at stake"

To initiate the convention, 34 states (two-thirds) must pass resolutions. Any proposed amendments during the convention would require ratification by 38 states (three-fourths) to become law, which supporters claim is the stop-gap preventing what critics warn could devolve into a "runaway convention."

Nineteen states to date have passed the Convention of States Article V application, with an additional eight states granting passage in one chamber but not yet the other. All 50 states are actively considering the Convention of States Resolution.

Just The News spoke to Mark Meckler, president of COS, about the gravity of their efforts in 2025. "I think the future of the country is at stake. I don't think that's an overstatement. Elections are always critically important, and every election is the most important election of our lifetime. There's also a fundamental structural reform that has to take place at the level of the federal government that will never be done in Washington, DC."

What would really help I think are telling people in each individual state which politicians to support at the state level to help get it passed

And ideas where we can provide such a list?

Article V convention? Do you know how many amendments have been passed, started by an Article V convention? Zero, Zilch, Nada. Hardest to organize, and still has the same requirements for ratification. Probably be better off following the other method, that has seen 27 amendments put forth and ratified.

I know. But since Democrats persist in calling the USA a democracy if they help us they can show at least one time it was. Trump is doing a wonderful job of heading us all back to a democracy.

No. He isn't. He just tried to use an independent government control agency to squelch free speech. Since that failed, now planning another one of his personal lawsuits to squelch and for fun and profit, again with supporters picking up, the legal fees, as usual, I'm sure. This one will fail, like the times lawsuit failed, and most like get thrown out of court, based on following Supreme Court precedence. If we follow Trump, we won't have a democracy or representative republic. But one of his other ideas could come true. We might never have to vote again.:9:

So? There is always a first.

To ratify recommendations from an Article V convention, several constitutional steps must be followed, culminating in the formal amendment of the U.S. Constitution. The process is deliberate and involves both the states and Congress in specific roles.constitutioncenter+2

Steps for Ratification

  • Two-thirds (34 out of 50) of state legislatures must pass resolutions applying to Congress for a convention to propose amendments to the Constitution.articlevinfocenter+2
  • Congress, upon receiving the requisite state applications for the same subject or issue, is required to call a convention for proposing amendments. Congress's role here is essentially mechanical, limited to setting the time, place, and subject matter of the convention.congress+1
  • States select their convention delegates according to their own procedures. Each state, regardless of application status, is entitled to send delegates, and each state's delegation typically has one vote at the convention.articlevinfocenter
  • The convention convenes to draft and propose amendment(s). It operates as a collective agent of the state legislatures, following its own procedures limited by Constitutional boundaries.articlevinfocenter
  • Once the convention proposes one or more amendments, Congress determines the mode of ratification—either by approval of three-fourths (38 of 50) of state legislatures or through conventions called in three-fourths of the states. Congress cannot alter these two options but chooses which one applies for a given amendment.constitutioncenter+3
  • The states then vote either through their legislatures or conventions, depending on the method specified by Congress. A proposed amendment becomes part of the Constitution only when ratified by three-fourths of the states.klrd+3

Key Considerations

  • The President and state governors have no formal roles in the ratification process, nor can the convention change the ratification mode set by Congress.articlevinfocenter
  • The process remains untested in practice, as no Article V convention has ever been called. All ratified amendments have thus far been proposed by Congress, not by convention.wikipedia+1
  • Recommendations from the convention do not have legal force unless adopted as amendments according to the process above.constitutioncenter+1
This safeguards constitutional stability by ensuring that amendments require broad consensus at both the federal and state levels.constitutioncenter+2

That is a tall story. Do you realize you failed to include tall proof? For the record, the same company that suspended Kimmel; also put him back on ABC though he still is not broadcasting on Sinclair or Nexstar.
