This Addiction Treatment Works. Why Is It So Underused?
An approach called contingency management rewards drug users with money and prizes for staying abstinent. But few programs offer it, in part because of moral objections to the concept.
I'd never heard of it til I read this article.
From the comments:
How about instead of paying people w/addiction problems to stop using alcohol/other drugs, rehabs STOP coercing/extorting their "clients" w/threats of incarceration, denial of driving & professional licenses, housing (see paper "Oxford House: Support for Recovery without Relapse" which advocates terminating people from housing/treatment programs if they "relapse"), & other ways of keeping their boot on these persons' necks? Rehab industry's single-largest source of "clients" are coerced by criminal justice system & other coerced situations:it relies on strict prohibition model.
