Boss
Take a Memo:
I'll be the first here to say it... Conservatives are who won the election for Donald Trump. Even the ones who most diligently opposed him. Now, I am not talking about the entire faction of "never Trumpers" out there... they are a weird combination of establishment Bush elites, certain neocons, and principled libertarian patriots who just couldn't vote for Trump with a clear conscience. But there were many more true principled Conservatives out there who showed up to vote for Trump over Hillary.
The reason for that outcome is simple. The Cruz Conservatives who were so unmercifully attacked by certain elements of the Trump support base... WE put pressure on the campaign to speak to us for our votes. We made it clear that we did not intend to line up behind an awful set of progressive policies we didn't agree with and demanded he speak to our concerns.
In the closing weeks of the campaign, I will argue that Donald J. Trump made some of the strongest conservative speeches of any presidential candidate in the past 30 years. His detailed plans for reforming health care, addressing illegal immigration, corporate taxation, education... no candidate since Reagan has spoken so true to core conservative principles. I credit the stubborn constitutional conservatives who "never said never" but held Trump's feet to the fire and made him EARN their vote.
And not only was Trump elected as president by the Conservatives. We also gave him the Senate majority and expanded the House majority. So now, there really is no excuse to see anything other than our political viewpoints advanced and put into play. We better get a Conservative Supreme Court. We better build the wall and get illegal aliens under control. We better see a return to our constitutional principles of smaller limited government and more individual liberty.
