Abelardo de la Espriella has won the presidential election in Colombia, defeating his opponent Iván Cepeda by a narrow margin of less than 1% of the votes. He is set to take office on August 7, 2026.
Strangely the election tabulation of votes took less time than any U.S. presidential election in the 21st Century history.
Colombia's preliminary voter tabulation system is significantly faster than the process used in U.S. presidential elections.
Despite using a nationwide paper-ballot system, Colombia routinely reports over 90% of its preliminary national vote counts within two hours of polls closing. By contrast, a definitive picture in a U.S. presidential election can take days or even weeks to solidify.
Colombia's Rapid Model:

During its presidential elections, Colombia utilizes a highly efficient preliminary counting system called the preconteo. Poll workers count physical paper ballots at individual voting tables immediately after voting ends, reporting up to 99.9% of the nationwide results by the next morning.​

Maybe California and the nation can take the advice.
