Chiefs Fire Their Refs

NEW ORLEANS, LA — Following a demoralizing loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, news broke early Monday morning that the Kansas City Chiefs had moved quickly to fire their referees.

While the team's officials had performed well enough all season to contribute to a number of victories, the referees' inability to come through in the clutch when the team needed them the most led the Chiefs to believe a change needed to be made.

"They just weren't getting the job done, so we're making a change," said General Manager Brett Veach. "There are a lot of different positions on this team, and they all have a responsibility to do their jobs to help the team win. When one or more of the people in those positions don't perform up to expectations, it's tough to win. That's why we had no choice but to cut ties with our officiating crew. They had a good run for us, and we're sorry that it just didn't work out in the end. We wish them the best, and we'll be looking to add some new referees as we regroup for next season."

Head referee Ron Torbert expressed disappointment but understood the nature of the business. "When you don't perform, you end up on the chopping block," he said. "This is a results-driven game. We showed up strong all season long and into the playoffs, but we didn't help our team win last night. That's on us."

At publishing time, Chiefs scouts were said to already have their eyes on referees they may be interested in adding through free agency and the draft to come back strong next fall.

Yeah but — as long as we’re digressing —
What about that Superbowl?

beatdown until late in the 4th
that 50 yard chuck that just dropped in perfectly was awesome

skill or luck, that far too much, too little, off by 2 feet and it does not happen

they mounted a charge but just too late

apparently KC never even got past the 50 in the 1st half, kelce dropped the ball twice and only had 1 catch?

Score reached either 34-0 or 37-0, I forget, late in the 3rd.
At that point, I think Phili just let up on them a bit, I mean, at that point,
even Superman couldn't have beaten the Eagles.

During the 1st half, I don't think KC ever made to past the 50 yard line.
Mahomes had a 10.7 passer rating.
Worst performance by Mahomes and KC ever.

Best of all, Eagles never even blitzed.
They brought no new looks or anything.
They just ran right at KC and dared them to stop them.
It has been since 1975 (Steelers) last time a SB team ran for more yards than passing.

let's not forget that rookie kid who turned 22 with that pick 6, what a hell of a birthday
that and win the SB! when you start at the top you can't go up any higher......

Yeah, Mahomes will be back, but he won't be in another SB anytime soon.
KC was highly overrated this year, mainly because they won about 6 games by the skin of their teeth they should have really lost.

I figure next year the NFC will be between Detroit and the Eagles, and the AFC will be between the Bills and Baltimore.
