From Trumps vantage point, a shutdown saves the government money, harms voters who probably support the Democrats by a ratio of 8:1, and, he doesn't have to give in to priorities for Dems that would funnel money to their midterm elections.

In fairness, with the U.S debt as high as it is, it would be great to see a president hold the line. The BBB is going to potentially increase your debt already so no need to negotiate more spending every few months.
