It is just a standard. Not all faceplates are exactly the same. Not uncommon for a trim carpenter install knobs on standard door units to knock out the difference with a wood chisel. All the interior doors in my house were assembled by, Madison Millwork / Huttig Sash & Door. I installed in my house new slabs and did notch the faceplates to meet the height of my Master Lock levers, as I was the lock buyer for the branch. It is better to be undersized in height at millwork jobber/wholesaler, than oversized, if you want to have an exact fit on the job.Where did you get the 2-1/4" height of the faceplate?
