BEIJING — Canada will lower its U.S.-aligned tariffs against Chinese electric vehicles in exchange for China reducing tit-for-tat tariffs against Canadian canola and seafood, a deal that has the potential to anger U.S. President Donald Trump.

Under the agreement, Canada will allow a small toehold for up to 49,000 Chinese EVs to enter the Canadian market at a tariff rate of 6.1 per cent, down from the current tariff rate of 100 per cent that Ottawa applied on Chinese-made EVs in fall 2024.

Dunno. Who knows with Canada. The USA blocks some of the best Chinese made EV's for import. You can import, but you pay 100% tariff. Same with a little pickup truck. They have been blocked. But it may change. I'd buy one. Not as safe as a big boy vehicle, but safer than a bike.

I am not the only one, I am one of the more outspoken on this forum. The reason for this is that I recall seeing this reality in 2003. I remember that I was on the subway and I remember the book I was reading. I remember the celebration of the MBA prof that America was losing its manufacturing to China. Communist China.

It was during this period I realized that this is an existential threat to our way of life and ultimately our very existence. You see, unlike most uninformed Europeans and Canadians who obtain their information from the relics of state run media, I am an independent thinker.

So when everyone was saying "the right side is cool", I knew we needed to make a left hand turn.

Trump is critical in this fight. Europe and their social decline, largely compromised leaders with covert China-First ideals must not get in the way of America protecting Western civilization.

Whether they know or not it doesnt matter, the next generation of European, Canadian and American children will live with the consequences of failed policies of today.

We will see how it all shakes out. I have not had a need or reflex to hide my views. I only wish smarter more powerful people than myself would have listened to those in my camp. Including, with my respect, the former head of CSIS who warned about China and was unceremoniously let go not long after.
