Can you succeed in medical school with average intellect? ??

Of course.

As a side note, George Carlin once observed:

"Somewhere in the world is a doctor who is worse than all other doctors...and someone has an appointment with him in the morning"

In my previous career, I worked in telecommunications companies, financial firms, governments, and news organizations all over the world.

I regularly met people who worked at executive levels in the same fields, many of whom i judged to be, with empirical evidence, stupid or incompetent.

Then I retired and joined a local police force as a street cop. I had never known until then what stupid really was. In the police department I came in daily contact with people so intellectually stunted that I don’t know how they were able to process oxygen into CO2. People with IQs smaller than their hat size and emotional control that would embarrass a rotweiller.

The point is … even the dumbest doctor is still head and shoulders above many John Q’s currently walking the streets and coming into contact with police.

"Practicing Medicine," is as much an art as it is a science.

As we saw with the recent scamdemic, those who relied explicitly on raw data, were the folks that more often got it wrong.

Any healthcare provider that does not have as much creativity and intuition as they do basic intellect, will probably not be very good at the job.

I am high wattage for things like logic, law, engineering, science but frankly the medical terms and spelling them are not for me.

How can you possibly get through dozens of highly dense and technical books per semester without high brain power.

Can a person with average IQ actually get through medical school or would that be near impossible????

What IQ do u need for MD school , engineering and law school

Thx
No, not really.

They still call the person who graduates at the bottom of their class "doctor".

But I'd never want to be one of his patients.

A General Practitioner is a "bottom tier" doctor....
Specializations is where the real money and brains come into play.

Because there is "bright" meaning above 100 IQ and then there are those who are "gifted".

For a specialization you must be gifted and dedicated. This includes those that do PHD type medical research. Meaning after you got your MD you continued to get your PHD.
These sorts of people arent exactly fun to have at parties...or have ethically correct morality....but they are curious creatures...and can find answers.

This message to me about the topic at hand is:
I asked my nurse daughter.
Can you succeed in medical school with an average intellect

Yes. I feel as long as the learner can focus on the rationale for everything they do, everything will make sense. Prerequisites to get into nursing programs are not for the faint of heart. That being said, some of my greatest professors claimed to be C average students in school, but they worked very, very hard and make some of the best nurses. Of course the level of care increases the need for a certain something (I.e. ICU nurse or nurse anesthetist)…but high IQ and book smarts
do not necessarily fill that need. Continuous learning, knowledge, experience and developing an expertise in your area will be the thing.

I have gone to doctors who had me seen by a PA for instance who was very much skilled on top or their game.
