Zone1 Can someone explain the similarities/differences between Elijah and Jesus?

From my layman's perspective Jesus and Elijah seem to be parallel God like figures from Christianity and Judaism. There also seems to be a lot of conflicting opinion on these two figures.
 
Jesus is the son of God while Elijah was a prophet.
 
I'll only state my opinion politely on this thread and then leave it alone for others to decide.

They're similar because the religious spin has to make them both imaginary figures.

Then why did Jesus say ". ... Jesus answered, "Elijah is coming and will put everything in order again.
Jesus said that? I must have missed it----to whom was he talking? His cousin, John the mikveh
