Only liberal mental illness would think it's a good idea to spend countless billions of dollars on a rail line competing with one of the most heavily traveled, and cheapest, air routes in the world: Bay Area to LA. Between the 3 Bay Area major airports and at least 5 in the LA area, there are literally flights every 2-3 minutes. For only about $70-80 each way. Why would someone spend a lot more money (which the train will have to do to cover its gargantuan overhead costs) to get between the two metro areas in 3 hours when you can get there throughout the day in 1 hour for a very cheap price? Long-distance passenger trains will never make a profit in America; it's a geographical fact that our distances are too huge and our average population density is too low for that to happen. That's why the airline industry has such a gigantic hegemony on passenger travel, it's the most practical under those geographical conditions we have.
