The former UK government set up harsher sentences but did not succeed in building new prisons. With almost 90.000 people behind bars, there is already a double occupancy in the prisons and there are only weeks until there is no more space. Only a few hundred places are free. Lawsuits are being delayed because of this.
The government began to release prisoners early in May because of this.

The current government will expand the early releases. This will apply tomorrow.

Why doesn't the UK just reopen the Tower of London and Botany Bay for the excess criminals? Or maybe start hanging and drawing and quartering more of them to open up space in the penitentiaries?

Start sending them to Australia again?
