Just like every other city that’s anti-police. Same folks who want to grab your guns are pro-criminal.
Who woulda thunk?

“The NYPD is sliding deeper into a staffing crisis that will ultimately hurt public safety,” Police Benevolent Association Patrolman Union President Patrick Lynch said.

“Low pay, inferior benefits and constant abuse from the City Council and other anti-cop demagogues has pushed attrition to record highs,” Lynch added, noting the Department “is struggling” to fill Academy classes.

“We need more cops working more hours to turn the tide of violence, but there is only so much overtime they can squeeze out of the cops who remain,” he said.

The NYPD was hoping to hire 1,009 new cops for the class that was sworn in in December. In the end, the upcoming graduating NYPD class totals a mere 675, police sources said. The current police officer exam, whose registration began June 8, is free.

“It will take 20 years to fix this mess,” said Joseph Giacalone, a John Jay College of Criminal Justice professor and a former NYPD sergeant.

“The city is bleeding blue and only the cop haters will be celebrating… There’s no way to stop it. Activists, abolitionists, and their pandering politicians have done so much damage to the profession, that it will take a generation to fix, if at all.”

Being held accountable for your actions? Not having that Blue Wall or Blue Shield to protect you? Having to make sure your actions justify the ends?
Yeah, I can see why they are retiring. And it has nothing to do with grabbing guns or their benefits (which have been shitty for a long time).
That's called culling the deadwood. The ones who are there for public service, won't leave. But hey, there's only so much you can ask one person to work overtime.

Oh yeah, "pandering politicians" haven't damaged police work. Politicians are who they are. Opportunists. The police have largely done that to themselves.

Can't get nurses in MN.....good thing they got rid of antivaxxers.....you made the bed now work the eighty hrs

The ones there for public service will be the first ones to leave because they aren't being allowed to protect the public anymore.

Yeah, that’s it. Nobody wants to work there because Democrats make too much of a good workplace.

No sympathy from me whatsoever. When their fellow officers were being abused & fired for refusing clot shots, the cowards that stayed said nothing.
When citizens wanted food at a restaurant but didn't have the proper papers, the cops were there to arrest them.
When people protested crooked elections & unConstitutional mandates, the cops were the totalitarian jackboots.
The Big Craphole gets what it deserves

An old high school friend is now a retired NYPD detective.

His son, wanting to follow in his father's footsteps, joined the NYPD. After about two years, and citing the city's leadership as the reason, the son left the NYPD, moved back out to Long Island, and is now a Suffolk County (NY) Sheriff...

The cops there for public service are the first to leave. They can see they won’t be allowed to protect the public. The ones who stay are the drones just there for a paycheck for doing as little as possible and the corrupt ones just out to make a buck, legally or illegally. We’ve seen this process before in major cities where the police became corrupt; forties Los Angeles, thirties Chicago and New York are prime examples. It takes decades of dedicated anti-corruption work to recover. Given the current political and legal environment, I’m not sure recovery is even possible any more,

Dufus thinks bad employees leave first when things go crappy.
