The border crossing at Kerem Shalom between Israel and the southern Gaza Strip was closed by the Defense Ministry on Sunday after it was targeted in several mortar attacks, with shells exploding inside the terminal compound.

The Border Crossings Authority said that trucks carrying flammable material were nearly struck by the shells fired from Gaza, prompting the decision to shut the crossing. Officials said it was clear the crossing area was being deliberately targeted.


Footage from security cameras showed several shells hitting the ground, exploding with bright flashes and releasing puffs of smoke that hung in the air.

Gaza City (Palestinian Territories) (AFP) - Hamas said Tuesday it has closed the Erez border crossing due to Israeli shelling, in a move that stranded a group of Palestinians planning to cross for medical treatment.


A group of about 20 Palestinians, some of whom were scheduled to enter Israel for cancer treatment, had arrived at the crossing early on Tuesday, an AFP correspondent said.

There was no immediate confirmation of the closure from COGAT, the Israeli defence ministry unit responsible for the crossing.

But a Hamas official at the site insisted the crossing was not open, and the gate leading to the tunnel that connects the Israeli and Gaza sides of the crossing was closed.

"The border has been closed because of constant Israeli shelling," he said.

The crossing area has been hit previously, but there were no reports of shelling on Monday or Tuesday.

A second official said the crossing would remain closed until they received international assurances that the terminal would be protected from Israeli air strikes.

"We need an international guarantee that the crossing, and the route between the two sides of the crossing, will not be bombed by Israel," he said.

The Erez crossing between the Gaza Strip and Israel is ordinarily open for Palestinians granted rare permission to enter the Jewish state, usually for medical purposes.

Earlier in the week, Palestinians holding foreign passports evacuated through the crossing, fleeing an Israeli aerial campaign that has killed more than 185 people

Go to 0:13 and you can see the explosion is between the two structures, then another one is seen at 10:00 outside the compound. How many reports have we seen of hamas firing at the crossings when humanitarian aid is coming through. And then confiscating the aid so they can sell it on the black market to make money to buy weapons.

At :10 the structure is still standing and a round goes off to the right of it. Those are 60mm mortar rounds and the bursting radius is only 20 meters.

I Never said they use Dynamites/TNT but I said both create a similar explosion just like in the video so learn to read, both are also made by trinitrotoluene, which indicates its a Mortar shell and not a flashbang like you said before, this is very easy to smuggle in powder and solid form.

Yeah, they sure get a lot of aid, but instead of using it to help their people, they're busy shooting rockets, building terrorist tunnels, and converting mosques, hospitals and schools into ammunition dumps.
