There are so many operations that the US has conducted where the POTUS never sought congressional approval.

Libya (which I disagreed with) was a different situation as it had the support of both NATO and the UN. Oh, yeah, and unlike Iran, there was actually a popular movement to support.

But if you really want to talk about Libya, it should be a cautionary tale of why you SHOULDN'T do these things.

Rather than ushering in the post-Gadaffy democracy we all said was coming, Libya today is a divided country.

Its oil output has become inconsistent, at best.

Actually, what Libya became was entirely because of the attack. We all thought that the world would be better off without Gaddafi, and it turns out, no, no, it wasn't. Gaddafi was a thug, but he was working with the West at that point, had given up his WMD programs, and made restitution for past terrorist actions.

Now Libya is a fractured state producing less than 25% of the oil it did before this started.

Given Iran is a multi-ethnic state, destablizing it's government will probably be worse than what happened in Libya.
