This sounds like you are making excuses for the behavior of minorities based on their history. Not all minorities that act in the way they do, have horrible backgrounds. Even so, using that as an excuse is just plain lazy and ignorant. My background wasn't full of wine and roses. I have posted before that I was born into poverty. My mother was 16 and my father was 18. He worked 2 jobs so my mom could stay home with me during the day. during my school years, I had out of style clothes and I was often picked on and made fun of because of my hand me downs. Yet I never turned to crime, drugs, or other such things. I had a low self esteem most of my life until I started making things better for myself. I started working at 14, and by 18, I moved out on my own, and by 19, I had my first new car, signed and paid for by myself. My cars that I had previous had been ones I bought (note I myself, not parents or relatives) had been older, unreliable ones.
This country was founded on the principle that no matter what your background, you can be what you want to be. If you don't have aspirations of being something other than a criminal, then that;s your choice, but YOU pay the consequences because you CHOSE, no one forced you.
If background has precedence on what you become in the future, then Abraham Lincoln should never have been President.
ALL minorities have the same options and opportunities that the rest of society has. To use the "I'm a victim of a horrible childhood" line is copping out and refusing to take responsibility for your own future. Life is hard. It is very hard and sucks sometimes. Get over it. I don't care where you come from, you can still be as successful as you want to be, but you WILL have to work for it. That's reality.
