What were most supernatural things invented to do other than scare children and even adults into behaving...or to explain things to them that adults didn't feel like explaining, or thought their kids weren't ready to know the truth. It's just that when it comes.to military secrets there's a lot.more at stake than kids simply raiding the cookie jar or getting lost in the woods for a couple hours. So the government will go to great lengths to cover the truth. Go read up on some of the unbelievable things that we and the Soviets did during the Cold War to outsmart each other. Then come back and tell me they wouldn't create "UFO culture" to keep people guessing and arguing about mysterious lights in the sky.

Again, you seem to think the Govenrment is a lot more clever than it actually is.

The problem is, of course, that the government has gone out of its way to debunk UFO sightings. The purpose of Project Blue Book, for instance, was to find prosaic explanations for all UFO sightings.

Now, if you look at the five great UFO "Flaps", they were all accompanied by something else. The 1947 Flap, for instance, corresponded with with the USSR getting the bomb. (The idea that these were alien craft would not come until later.) The 1957 flap was directly corresponding to the launch of Sputnik. The last one was in 1973, and was directly related to a lot of the turmoil of the time.
