Perhaps, but I see it differently. I see them as the battered image as they failed to live by, let alone uphold, the ideals of the Catholic faith. They brought shame on themselves, not on the Church. I breathe a sigh of relief as I think, "But for the grace of God, there go I." They both appear to have chosen wealth and power over the grace of God. Neither wealth or power were ever a temptation for me, so they may still experience the mercy of God in the way many never will.

Maybe Catholicism wouldn't have such a battered image if people realized that the Vatican was taken over by its enemies decades ago. But few want to study "boring" history, I guess, so we are where we are. It seems like no one else on this forum knows what I myself know about the modern history of the Vatican. . can't have an intelligent conversation w/ people who are so ignorant.

Then everyone wants to cry and whine about how awful things are "in the Church."

The Vatican is not part of the Catholic Church anymore. I do not say such things lightly. I have studied this rather in-depth. So many others have studied NADA. Thank God all Catholic Churches did not follow in the path of the Vatican, although plenty of them did/do.

(that has to be made RE something I posted some time ago)

I have referred posters here to Most Holy Family Monastery, and I do not regret that because there is massive information there RE what happened to the Catholic Church (since about 1958).

But they sometimes go to extremes. They are suggesting that Catholics abstain from the novus ordo Mass, which admittedly is "off." The Mass of All Times, as traditionalists call it, is a Mass that the Council of Trent (at the time of Luther) canonized, which means that it cannot be changed (certainly not in any radical way). However, Jesus did say that He would be with us always, until the End (Mt 28:20), so His Presence is still extant in--can't say all but (possibly)--most Catholic Churches. Catholics do have to be careful which Church they attend, but if you find one that has this tangible Presence, your search has ended-- unlike other unfortunates still going through the search process. Pray for those ones the prayer Mary gave us (through the 3 children) at Fatima:

"Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of Hell; lead all souls to Heaven, especially those most in need of Your mercy" [abortionists, fornicators, etc...]

I say it is very, very wrong to tell Catholics not to attend the only Mass they can attend
