Biden destroying jobs in Appalachia

A huge coal mine headquartered in Brave, PA on the PA-WV border is being closed.

Where are the "green " , good paying middle class jobs that Sleepy Joe promised to replace these mining jobs?

How are these former miners going to be able to afford SUV's and kids' bills for orthodontia unless Biden gets out to Monongalia County and brings clean, good paying jobs than he promised?

Biden has nothing to do with it. Coal is dying and even Trump was unable to save it. No one wants a dirty coal plant in their neighborhood.

Apparently you're not keeping up. China is producing coal fired power plants as fast as they can world wide--and they are signatories to the Paris Climate Accords. Sounds like the US is the only country taking it seriously. The rest of the world is just looking at us as a cash cow.

Demand for coal is dropping regardless of China. No one wants their air to look like what it is in China.

40 years of democrats war on coal and you have the nerve to say a career politician like Biden has nothing to do with it?

The great thing about this is when you discover that you are WRONG and you say "Damn, that guy was right and the democrats sold us down the river."

Technology has had a war on coal

It is no longer a viable energy source

Biden promised to replace coal mining jobs with Well-Paying Green jobs that would catapult the former miners into the middle class- didn't he?

Has he done it in the last four months in office?
No

Pass his infrastructure bill and there will be jobs to be had

Not middle class permanent jobs. Infrastructure is roads and bridges and after its built, the job is over. Further, these are coal miners, they don't know construction trades.

Why not provide green, unskilled work, like journalist or lobbyist positions for these men?
Oh, you mean temporary jobs like those for the Keystone Pipeline?

No, coal has had a war with technology. My son graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering with an energy concentration. His specialty, coal. That was five years ago. To say he is in high demand would be an understatement. He has delivered presentations on three continents and is near completion of this Phd in Material Science.

There is a place for coal now, and in the foreseeable future. For baseline power production coal and natural gas are the way to go. Green sources just can't reliable provide that baseline production and without reliable and cheap storage capacity, that will remain true for years to come. The demise of coal has little to do with environmental concerns and almost everything to do with natural gas use for power generation. In a sense, fracking has more to blame for coal's decline than anything else.

But to coal's war on technology. Coal was cheap to mine and cheap to burn. So cheap that the power companies had little concern for efficiency. Natural gas is more efficient, but increasing the temperature of the water improves the efficiency of a coal power plant. This is done by placing the water under pressure and making the transition to steam almost instant. The limitation is the ability of the containment vessel to remain viable at those higher temperatures. Currently, new coal plants and upgraded goal plants are at the supercritical stage, with a thermal efficiency of around 44%. That is compared to the old plants which have a thermal efficiency of 33%. Research, like the kind my son is doing, is attempting to achieve ultra-critical stage where there is no loss of heat to water at the steam transfer and thermal efficiency exceeds 50%. That would negate the current advantage of natural gas.

The short form of all that, coal is going nowhere for a long time.
