Bell to Bell

What do the kids do with the phones?
All manner of unproductive if not outright nefarious things.

Taking inappropriate pictures of classmates.
Cheating.
Wasting time instead of learning.
Arranging fights.
Filming fights or crimes and posting them online which encourages more.
And more.

No, apologies. To clarify under this rule where do their phones go?

There are lots of states that have done this. Florida is another. Kentucky did also.
Apparently, one town in MA is trying out an app that shuts down all internet functions when students enter the classroom and it switches back on when they leave the room. Experimental at this point.

Some schools have students turn in their phones when they arrive at school in the morning and retrieve them at the end of the day. Some classrooms have a big, clear box that students put their phones in. The box is locked during class and only the teacher has the key. Our school put big hangers over a door in the classroom with numbered pouches students have to put their phones in at the beginning of class. Every student is assigned a number, so the teacher knows who put their phones in there and who didn't. None perfect solutions, but you gotta try.
