Bats and elephants apparently use the p53 tumor suppressor protein differently than humans do.


Bat cells can be made cancerous in a few hours in a petri dish, but inside the bat the p53 gene causes the cancerous cells to self destruct.

Self destruction occurs through a process called apoptosis, which is programmed cell death.

i saw on a nat geo show that Sharks dont get the cancer either...
