“Remember back in July when Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) abruptly adjourned the House of Representatives for summer recess? The quick exit gave Republicans an escape from headlines about the Trump administration’s refusal to release files on Jeffrey Epstein, the deceased sex offender.

Now, Congress is about to return. And the Epstein drama is just one fire burning among many. As September begins, Republicans remain on the defensive, and this time they won’t be able to call a time-out.

The bottom line for congressional Republicans this fall is not governance but survival.

The hottest flame coming at them is the burning threat of an Oct. 1 government shutdown, unless there is a budget deal. Despite Republican majorities in both houses, the GOP has failed to pass next year’s appropriations, despite allowing government debt to reach record highs. To get a deal done, Republicans will likely need some Democratic votes. In exchange for their votes, the Democrats have demands in hand.”

The bottom line for Congressional Republicans is to reject sound, responsible governance altogether.

1. Epstein has played out. There are no girls to point fingers, so it doesn't matter anymore. Get it off your plate Mikey.

2. Agreed that we will either need to pass Appropriations Bills by 10/1 or they will need a CR, and in the Senate that means democrat votes or the "Nuclear Option". Go nuclear!

3. Nope. Politics just got "real". Can't reject sound governance, need to keep the democrats at bay with reasonable compromises, or go Nuclear.

No one cares about Epstein. Democrats face prosecutions for the Russia fraud, Biden dementia cover up and auto pen scandal. They also face the fact that they are the party that defends criminals and illegals. They fought tax cuts for the middle class. I cant wait for the ads to come out before the midterms.

America will once again be held hostage by the liberals. :eusa_whistle:

Yeah... when liberals can hold a majority Republican Congress with a Republican President and Republican Supreme Court hostage, you know there's a problem with the Republicans....

The Republican senate can fix that problem with a rule change eliminating the 60-vote filibuster and ushering sanity in with a simple majority. Assuming the RINOs would vote for it, i.e. Collins, Murkowski, McConnell.
