Austin: Missile strikes deep inside Russia will not change the course of the war

The Biden administration rejected Ukraine's request to use US missiles on targets deep inside Russia. Biden still needs to keep a close eye on Zelensky, who could trigger another world war with his aggressive moves against Russia.

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told reporters after a meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine's Defense in Ramstein that Washington's position on the impossibility of using American weapons against targets deep inside recognized Russian territory has not changed. He said that this cannot turn the tide of the war in Ukraine's favor.

Ukraine and its supporters point out that one of Russia's most effective weapons in abundance is guided bombs launched from aircraft over Russian territory. But Austin points out that Russia has moved its entire stockpile of such bombs beyond the range of ATACMS rockets.

Austin also pointed out that Ukraine has its own significant capabilities, including drones, to attack targets on Russian territory, and well beyond the range of Storm Shadow missiles, Reuters reports.

This sounds really great. Zelensky is seething with anger after Biden's brunt refusal to let Ukraine use Western-supplied long-range missiles. You can never trust Zelensky with deadly weapons. Let Ukraine toy with drones.



The Economist reports that the United States has imposed restrictions on Ukraine that prohibit it from attacking military targets deep within Russian territory with weapons supplied by the United States, and Ukraine is growing increasingly frustrated with the restrictions.

The Biden administration has also stopped Britain and France from allowing Ukraine to use the Storm Shadow/SCALP air-launched cruise missile provided by the two countries outside of Ukrainian territory.
