Asking Companies to Lower Prices? THAT's the Plan?

The problem for typical Americans, is that our wages and salaries do not rise nearly as quickly as prices do when there is inflation.
It's not just when there is inflation, our wages should continually increase right?

Ideally, your wages should continually increase while the cost of the basic necessities of life remain fairly stable, putting you ahead of the inflation curve. During times of inflation, more of your wages have to go to the now increased costs of goods & services, leaving people with less or no disposable income. Worse case scenario is when you can no longer afford the goods & services you previously could.

My understanding is that only jobs that are protected by a union get cost of living raises (at least where I am currently). Why is this restricted to only union jobs? Inflation negatively impacts everyone.

Your understanding is wrong.

Some unions have cost of living increases automatically, and some do not.

OTOH, non-union employers are free to, and often do, raise wages in periods of inflation.

If you spend less than you earn you've defeated inflation. I'm a high school grad working a low skilled job and this year I banked $70,000.
