Cops today get any courage they have from tear gas, TASERS, pepper spray, clubs, slap jacks, high capacity hand guns, assault rifles, bullet proof vests....

In spite of the fact that street crime has been down since the 90's cops have declared war on the citizenry citing "officer safety" as they trample the Constitution instead of defending it. One can say that cops are taking orders from the White shirts and the corporatists for why they have become of brutal and contemptuous of the Constitution. Maybe that is part of it but maybe it is because today's cops are wimps and unfit to throw down like a real man.

How serious can a man be about serving and protecting if he allows himself to get too fat to do it?

You are clueless. Fire fighters train constantly and take pride in being fit. What those storm troopers are wearing is light weigh compared what fire fighters wear. There is no way the NYPD would have run into the WTC and up multiple floors with a full pack like the NYFD did even if they were in good enough shape to do it.

Pound for pound a fire fighter is 10 times the athlete a cop is.

For that kind of money they should be required to be as fit as a US Marine. Anything else is unacceptable.
