Are there other objects out in space that are headed for our solar system, or the Earth.?!?

Are there other large objects out in space, that may be headed for the Earth?

The Andromeda Galaxy is on a collision course with The Milky Way.
No red shift there.

When somebody tells you that all of the galaxies are getting further and further apart from each other due to the expansion of the universe, they are lying.

The good news is most astronomers agree that our solar system will most likely not even be affected by this galactic collision. The bad news is our sun will be dying right around the time of the collision and may have already destroyed the earth as it prepares for a supernova event. That is if none of the larger asteroids in the asteroid belt, or in the Kuiper Belt, or in the Oort Cloud don't get us first. But, I'm not worried about those as much as I am worried about madmen harnessing atomic weapons, superviruses and many other WMDs.

Hopefully by the time that happens, my progeny will have conquered another solar system.

My understanding is that our biology is hopelessly tied to Earth's particular conditions and recreating earth's particular conditions in space for space travel that will involve generations will be extremely difficult. But, the advances in AI might make us able to digitize our brains and create virtual beings that can live indefinitely in just about any environment, as long as there is a power supply. I think we have no choice but to make the earth better, instead of worse, if our species wants to continue as biological beings.

Of course. Depending on what time scale you want to use, there are thousands of micrometeorites hitting the Earth every day, larger ones every few years, really big ones every century, and if you want to wait millions of years, then larger asteroids, comets and beyond.

So far, everything we have seen has been missing us by enough to be comfortable (considering the scale of the Earth), but closer than I'd really like (considering the scale of the solar system).

The solar system held at arm's length, there is stuff breezing by us all the time, but more importantly, while there is nothing known headed right for us at the moment, what is really important is the stuff we cannot see, stuff coming at us from a trajectory from behind the Sun. Headed the right path, stuff from certain directions can sneak right up on us and be practically upon us before we know it due to glare from the Sun, giving us mere weeks or days of notice instead of months and years.

The Sun will never go supernova, but instead will first enlarge as a helium-driven red giant, culminating in expelling its atmosphere into a planetary nebula, leaving behind a tiny white dwarf ember.

But as too Andromeda, its local motion towards us within the Local Group simply far exceeds any expansion of universal space.

Man-made global warming will fry everyone long before any of this happens.

Not the view of most astronomers. What is that based on?

Well, that is a relief

It was keeping me up at night.

What about the other billion that are getting further away from us?

Toobfreak answer this in his post #9 ...

The fifty of sixty closest galaxies to the Milky Way are gravitationally bound in what we call the Local Group of galaxies ... starting with the two Magellanic Clouds ... and like the M Clouds, almost all these Local Group galaxies are very small elliptic galaxies ... Andromeda, M51 and the Milky Way are the three "biggie" spiral shaped galaxies ...

It's a complicated orbit, but all these fifty of sixty galaxies dance around each other ... at any given time, some are moving towards us and others moving away ...

It is outside our Local Group where we see everything moving away from us ... the Doppler Effect shifts wavelengths to the red part of the spectrum ...

If you believe in the Big Bang Theory ...

ETA: "The exact number of galaxies in the Local Group is unknown as some are occluded by the Milky Way; however, at least 80 members are known, most of which are dwarf galaxies." -- Wikipedia ... (my bad) ...

this is shining example of you preaching science, like the more you say it the more it will be true, I don't think people on this forum have the time to be convinced of what you have to preach until it brainwashes them. but uh, please enlighten me with your.....logic......how the Doppler effect causes red shift to prove your point about galaxies spreading out? or is the math to hard for my simple 6th grade mind? foul mouth
