With a permanent presence in Greenland, the US will control approximately 1/2 of the Earth's northern latitudes stretching to the North Pole. In addition to providing a strategic missile defense against North America, it will permit protection of the Northern Passage through Canada and sea lanes to the North Atlantic.

In essence, it will further devalue Canada's contribution to NATO or continental defense. Congratulations, Mr. Prime Minister, you have reduced Canada's strategic relevance to near zero. But you still have your TDS.
