Apparently, Apple and also Google and Amazon are each in the process of developing a worldwide satellite network that will supplant traditional cell tower service. I read an investment newsletter about Apple efforts in this area. The thesis is that Apple-Fi will cost $5/month and eat all of the cell carriers lunches.

I predict right now Apple would never even consider such a low rate.
If anything, expect a surcharge and premium for anything associated with Apple.

It's already getting to where everything worth a shit is behind a paywall or costs extra. Low cost cell service would not be that low when all the popular apps are extra.
