This is why Trump enacted them early as it takes a year to a year and a half to really see the benefits.

This is what Canada, especially Ontario is bracing for. I did my part to warn Canada for 20 years, NOW the government is talking about breaking down barriers to trade in our own country between provinces (yes, that's real), and also looking to invest in A.I and value-add industries.

Better late than never. Trump intends to bring back auto and steel/aluminum jobs. Canada destroys its talent while America drives to attract it.

Apple said Monday it will invest $500 billion on expanding US facilities over the next four years, a move that could help it avoid new tariffs on goods imported from China.

Apple said the investment will create 20,000 jobs.

Earlier this month, President Donald Trump announced tariffs of 10% on all imports from China, from which Apple imports many products, including most of its iPhones. Trump signaled Friday that Apple was planning to make this investment following a meeting with Apple CEO Tim Cook on Thursday. Trump attributed the investment to his tariffs.

The only problem I can see with that is that Apple has become addicted to dirt cheap Chinese labor. I don't know what the profit margin is on the average iPhone... probably huge.

It's going to boil down to how much of a loss in profit margin they're willing to take on each unit. iPhones are already expensive. Producing them here in the United States could double the price unless Apple is willing to swallow the difference.

It won't bother me I hate iPhones.

However, the investment builds on Apple’s previous efforts to expand its supply chain outside of China in recent years, partly in response to production issues in China during the pandemic. Those investments include growing production for Mac Pro computers in Texas.

TSMC, which makes chips for Apple, has also recently opened chipmaking plant in Arizona, helped by $6.6 billion in support from a bipartisan bill passed during the Biden administration to encourage investment in US chip manufacturing. However, Apple has mostly expanded production in places like India and Vietnam.

This has nothing to do with tariffs and Trump. Many US companies have left China because of it's handling of the pandemic and the disasterous inability to do business there as a result.

China lost approximately 400 million people it seems.

You do understand the word partly, don't you.

Chinese labor is not as "dirt cheap" as it used to be. That's why labor is shifting to SEA.

Well...they can't really go any higher...New cell phones are already breaching getting close to $900, if you consider only the main stream models, its nearing $1300.

...for a device with planned obsolescence...

People won't be able to afford them.

This is the core of Trump's theory re tariffs. American products that are now all or mostly outsourced to places like China, India, et al for manufacture and assembly will be profitable to make in the USA again. Currently almost all Iphones are assembled in China with components made in China, India, Vietnam etc. It will be nice to see a 'made in the USA' label on them again.
