Is ANZUS alliance still alive, or is it dead now?
Seems to me that "American taxpayers" of today, in forums at least, have no desire to see their military used to help defend Australia and New Zealand from attack by anyone, including China...honouring the ANZUS alliance.

AUKUS...tri nation agreement to arm Australia with nuclear submarines (made in Australia)...is it still alive, or is it dead now/soon? (Pentagon has ordered a review).

US technology, US President must decide...the agreement reportedly states that if the President doesn't want it to continue he can kill it off.

If not AUKUS subs for Australia, then perhaps US and UK could park some of their nuke subs in Australian ports permanently, on a rotation basis.

There may be concerns with the governments of these nations and/or Chinas influence within them. These very issues could lead to the dissolving of the Five Eyes network if America believes their intel will be conpromised or shared with China. These are very seriois geopolitical issues.

It's not ANZUS any more, the US has made that very clear. You must be talking about AUS and AUKUS.

The US has withdrawn from their commitment to 'consult' with NZ. I suppose they'll do it if they feel like it now.

You are never gonna see one of those 'Oz' subs. You may have the privilege of hosting US subs in exchange.

What could be fairer?

Is NZ still crazy "woke"?
Quite possibly. I think this is still the majority view and nukes are still banned. How woke is that?

If I were Washington/Pentagon/CIA there's no way known to mankind I would be letting my nuclear systems/tech for my ships/subs out of my sight, let alone out of my possession.
Australia has reportedly paid a "deposit" to Washington of $800m.
Wonder if the AUKUS agreement has a refund policy?

Trump is demanding that Australia increase its spending on defence.
Australia was putting its money into the nuke powered subs idea.
Pentagon review should be complete soon.
PM 'Albo' was to meet yesterday with President Trump in Canada on completion of the G7.
Australia is not in the G7.
Israel-Iran war is said to have seen President Trump rush back to Washington, no more meetings with anyone there.

Australia seems not to be on Trump's "friends" list.
He seems to be very unhappy that Australia has increased trade with Britain (free trade agreement), and the EU (free trade agreement could be signed soon).
Well he was the one who basically 'cancelled' the AUSFTA...Australia-US Free Trade Agreement ...with his tariffs.
Saw Americans on my nightly tv news just now, when interviewed about possible US military action against Iran, say "No, it's their war...it's not our war".

That seems to be the thinking of the majority of Americans, judging by what I see written in forums, and on tv.
Look, it's fair enough, America can defend itself, and the lives of all Americans are very precious.

So, where does that leave Australia?
Basically defenceless.
Australia, that wasn't allowed to have nukes and went around signing Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaties.
Oh well, such is life in the world today.

Hosting US nuke subs, warships, aircraft carriers in ports in Australia on a permanent, rotating basis would be much better than AUKUS, in my mind.

Yes; it'll survive Albo and the creeps.

US, New Zealand sign strategic deal after nuclear row

New Zealand and the US have signed a strategic co-operation document to restore relations after a 25-year row.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and New Zealand Foreign Minister Murray McCully signed the Wellington Declaration at parliament.

It commits the two countries to regular foreign ministry, trade and military talks.

China is winning hearts and minds in the Pacific islands. The Cook Islands is a self-governing country and it signed a deal with China on trade and seabed minerals without consulting New Zealand, which pays $16.9 million to its former colony for development assistance this financial year. Trump signed a similar mineral deal with Ukraine and he cannot complain about China's deal with the Cook Islands.

In February, the Cook Islands signed the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership — a five-year deal with China for a one-off grant of $4 million to cooperate on trade, investment, and the "seabed minerals sector".

This angered New Zealand, which raised concerns that it had not seen the agreements before they were signed despite repeated requests.

Seems Cook Islands has not been paying attention.

ANZUS without NZ is AUS, as I said.

ANZUS no longer exists.

Kleptocracy is such a nasty word...

UK and Australia deepen AUKUS submarine pact with 50-year treaty

UK and Australia deepen AUKUS submarine pact with 50-year treaty

The treaty is expected to deliver more than $40 billion in exports to the United Kingdom over 25 years.

"Through the treaty, we are supporting high-skilled, well-paid jobs for tens of thousands of people in both the UK and Australia," he said.

Top US Defence official Elbridge Colby, who is conducting the Trump administration's review, has previously voiced concern about the pact and suggested the US may not be able to sell Virginia Class submarines to Australia in the 2030s without compromising its national security.

Well there you go.

Looks like AUKUS just became AUK.
Which is fine.
US has to protect its national security, and Australia is being pressured to increase defence spending.
US could have its nuke subs patrol Indo Pacific, if it wanted to as part 'peace in the region'.
The great "unknown"....'if we whack Taiwan, Australia, anywhere else in the region...will US missiles turn us into ash?"
Said "unknown" might just make China think twice before it goes on Xi's 'war' rampage, and keep the region peaceful.

If I were China, I'd be trying to make money out of Taiwan instead of invading it.
