iPhoto itself doesn't have a compression tool of its own, other than in the e-mail option. If you click e-mail and choose the size of 640X480 or something small like that then click create mail you can drag the photo from the e-mail directly onto your desktop and it will keep it in the same format. This option won't work a high number of photos at a shot but if you only have a couple you can do it.
You can also download a compression tool at a site like http://www.download.com and compress them separately then bring the photo into your iPhoto library....

no1tovote4 said:OS 9 had one, but I believe that they include and expect iPhoto to be the end-all in the newest versions of Mac. I am far from an expert on Macs though, so somebody can prove me wrong later....
It is best to simply download a comression agent and use it, it will be better than any simple program that they have on the Mac.
