If so, any stories to share? How did friends and fsmily react etc? I think all should be supported in their pursuit for spiritual connection and even perfection. Thabk you for your time.

/----/ I converted from Catholicism to Druidism. Reformed Druid, to be precise.
I worship shrubbery.

I guess you could say I’ve moved toward what I’d call secular Buddhism. I was baptized and raised Lutheran, and I still have a deep respect for Jesus—but the churches I attended always left me feeling hollow. When I hit a personal low a couple years back, I turned to clergy for support and mostly got robotic replies: “Just pray,” or “read these verses.” It didn’t help.

Oddly enough, what did help was the VA. I started cognitive behavioral therapy, and it turns out a lot of their practices—like mindfulness, breathwork, and present-moment awareness—are based on a secularized form of Buddhism. It’s not about belief; it’s about training the mind. And it works. The clinical outcomes speak for themselves.

I’m not against religious belief or doctrine—it just doesn’t apply to me anymore, if it ever did. What I’ve found now feels more like clarity than conversion.

Thanks for asking this. It’s a good thread.

I have always walked with God and Christ Jesus. I've been in church since I was a toddler.

The Holy Bible is the only doctrine I have ever followed.

I am mocked for my new religion and as far as how others react? They just giggle, dismiss me, and say, "your funny". Christians are tribal. Once you belong to the tribe you can't leave. Pretending you can does not compute. It isn't met with hostility. It is me with dismissiveness. To leave a religion doesn't require the blessing of your friends and family. Just leave. They will ignore it and pretend that you are still part of their club.

Experiences could be different if you were a Muslim in Saudi Arabia becoming a Jew or a Hindu in India becoming a Muslim. In America the stakes aren't as high for the most part. Even the Amish, Jehovah Witness's and Mormon tradition of shunning isn't as severe today as it was in the past. I'd say switching religions for an American would likely get you a yawn.

Baptist to Whiskeypalian. Baptised and confirmed at the same time, followed by the holy sacrament of barbeque!
