Murder hunt after man is shot dead in east London
Detectives launched a murder hunt today after a man was shot dead in the street in east London.
The 26-year-old victim was treated by paramedics after he was shot in a residential street in Hackney but died at the scene.
Scotland Yard said officers were called to Ferncliff Road after residents reported the sound of gunshots at around 11.1opm yesterday.
Paramedics and police - including specialist firearms officers - raced to the scene where they found the victim suffering from gunshot injuries.
Despite efforts to save him, he died at the scene.
A neighbour, Layla, 52, who did not want to give her full name, said: “I was just sitting on the couch and heard this huge bang that made my dog go crazy. The windows shook, it was so close.
“I am petrified now.”
Another resident said: “The man lives around here. I saw his mother come out on the street and was crying. She was so upset, just sobbing. It is devastating.”
