"Joe Biden has quietly launched a commission on “reforming” the Supreme Court, potentially dropping a partisan bomb onto Congress at the same time he’s pleading for “unity and healing.” The commission will supposedly be bipartisan, but there’s only party demanding changes to the top court’s structure.

The commission will be housed under the purview of the White House Counsel’s office and filled out with the behind-the-scenes help of the Biden campaign’s lawyer Bob Bauer. Its specific mandate is still being decided. But, in a signal that the commission is indeed moving ahead, some members have already been selected, according to multiple people familiar with the discussions.

This is a very strange move for an administration that keeps claiming to focus on “unity and healing.” It’s tough to figure out a move that threatens healing more than this opening gambit on court packing."

Uh --- "Campaign promise"?

You do know the POTUS has nothing to do with setting the number of SCOTUS judges, do you not?

There is nothing to be of concerned here. These "commissions" never do anything or go anywhere.

While I would keep the 9 member court and require a Constitutional Convention and consensus to change Constitutional laws, I would recommend a citizen led Constitutional Council using proportional representation by party and consensus on public policy to report and resolve complaints of political abuse, political beliefs, and political conflicts of interest. We can test out such a process by addressing contested court rulings on the ACA mandates, on abortion funding, and on recognizing LGBT identity "as a class" instead of recognizing all "sexual beliefs" "political beliefs" and "spiritual beliefs" as equally protected from infringement by each other.

The Constitutional Council can be set up as an extension of the Electoral College Reps elected by Party so like Parties and Media this remains outside govt. The council would identify complaints of govt or corporate abuses, and conflicts in policy caused by differences in political beliefs, and seek conflict resolution between parties in order to report agreed solutions or terms of separation that are then recommended to govt to protect all interests involved.

Govt could then remain free to operate under Constitutional principles and process without interference by political parties and beliefs to manipulate the checks and balances on power.
