Trump ran his mouth about the NABJ convention starting late and in unison his cult members here repeated this. I happened to watch a news show by a black journalist who was there who said that was not the case. That journalist stated that things were delayed because Trumps punk --- didn't want to be fact checked. I repeated that comment here and as usual the trump cult told me how I was wrong. Well:

Why it matters: Trump did not want to be fact-checked live and was refusing to go on stage, NABJ president Ken Lemon told Axios.

The intrigue: The Q&A with the GOP presidential nominee was delayed more than an hour before he eventually joined a panel of Black journalists, including ABC News correspondent Rachel Scott, Fox News anchor Harris Faulkner and Semafor reporter Kadia Goba.

• At the time, President Trump blamed the delay on audio problems.
• Lemon told Axios, "There were audio problems, but they were resolved very quickly."
• "The bigger problem was his threat not to take the stage when he had agreed to go on. He did not want to be fact-checked, but we could not let him on the stage without fact-checking," Lemon said.

Behind the scenes: The stalemate was so prolonged that NABJ leaders were prepared to explain to the audience of nearly 2,000 people why Trump would not appear.

• "I was prepared to go on stage to craft a statement, saying he decided not to go on stage because of fact-checking... we couldn't compromise on that.

A good and relevant topic for a thread.

The posts so far have been largely defensive and petulant.
And that's OK. Those folks who objected to the topic have their loyalties and will protect 'em as they see fit.

More important than the loyalists reaction is the fact....once again....that we, the press, and the American citizenry were lied to.
Don Trump and his enablers intentionally deceived us that the delay was the NABJ's fault. It was the Association's equipment they claimed.

That was untrue. Conservative-leaning 'The Hill' explains it well (see the link in the OP), but it was also well described in the Poynter Institutes newsletter days ago. Don Trump and his enablers did not want Politifact to fact-check his assertions and allegations.

And he refused to go on stage if the Association insisted on verifying statements he made. Why? Why wouldn't an honest persuader not want his honest statements validated? That validation would lend credibility to his assertions....if they were true.

Or, would the fact-checking reveal misstatements, mistakes, errors, deceptions...which would detract from the credibility of the putative persuader?

And further, why lie about the reason for the delay? Why blame the Association for a delay caused by DonTrump? DonTrump even blamed one of the journalists on stage for the alleged 'equipment failure'.

WTH!! I am a skeptic on DonTrump's character. Incidents such as this.....ignoring for the purpose of this thread his defensiveness and deflection over a legitimate query from the journalists on stage.....but incidents such as this reinforce my avatar's skepticism.
