Flare guns that use a shotshell adaptor are no joke.....Here is one (26.5mm) that can use a .410 adaptor. They are sold as rifled .45LC adaptors but also accept .410 shotshells.

There are 12 ga adaptors meant for 12 ga flares but will also accept a 12 ga "mini-shell".
